HERSELF

HERSELF is a surrealist study of identity: the self that is presented, the self that is concealed, and the process of revealing both. Fabric, human gesture and stitched-looking lines provide a visual language for transformation and self-recognition.
A largely monochromatic field allows a restrained accent of color to carry unusual weight. As viewers spend time with the drawing, layered forms and shifts in contrast create a second reading beneath the first.
Like much of Reising’s work, HERSELF asks the viewer to move between the whole composition and its small discoveries. The drawing belongs to an ongoing exploration of identity, perceptual depth and emotional architecture.
